Information:

Ngoen Pak Phee (ghost mount coin) refers to a coin placed in the mouth of a deceased person before the body is placed in the coffin, with the belief that it will help the deceased use the money in the afterlife. Coins such as one-baht or half-baht coins are wrapped in white cloth and placed in the mouth, with a string tied so that it hangs out, making it easier to retrieve after cremation. In modern times, those of higher status may use gold instead of money. This money is easier to find after cremation and can be kept as a memento or turned into a charm for protection.

In the past, if a ghost mount coin became blackened or scorched, resembling something burned by fire, merchants would refuse to accept it, believing it to be cursed and unfit for ordinary people. Only those with strong occult knowledge could handle such coins, as they could protect themselves from the spirits of the deceased coin owner. Additionally, using these coins in rituals or as talismans required proper ceremonial procedures; any mistakes or careless handling could result in life-threatening consequences. The most potent and rare ghost mount coins were those from individuals who died on a Saturday and were cremated on a Tuesday, as they were believed to be useful in many mystical rituals, such as acquiring a living person's soul for control or performing magic to influence others.

Beyond the belief in ghost mount coins, there lies a deeper lesson: no matter how much wealth a person accumulates during their life, they cannot take any of it with them after death. The only things one can carry into the afterlife are their good and bad deeds. Therefore, one should not become overly attached to material wealth, which is ultimately transient and external.
